Nissan Gloria and Cedric (Y34 series)

The Y34 series was introduced in 1999 and was sold under two names, the Gloria and the Cedric. These two cars were almost identical with the same sheet metal, chassis, suspension and engine options and are only distinguishable (aside from badging) by minor differences such as different colours, interior trim, wheels, different front grille, and different tail lights (Cedric are red, Gloria are clear). From 2001 onwards the Gloria received different headlights with a triple round chrome arrangement behind the plastic covers, and a different front bumper. The Y34 was also sold in the US after production had ended in Japan as an Infiniti M45 with different dashboard styling and V8 VK45DE engine, but no Japanese spec models received this power plant.

Engines the Gloria/Cedric did receive included the 3,000cc V6 turbo VQ30DET with 208kW (280hp), and is the largest of the turbo VQ engine series released by Nissan. A 6 speed continuously variable Extroid transmission (CVT) with tiptronic mode and steering wheel shift buttons was available on high spec models, as well as a 4 speed automatic transmission.

The Gloria/Cedric was one of the first vehicles in Nissan's range to rely on an in dash TV screen displaying TV and navigation information (which will not work in Australia), reversing camera view as well as other vitals about the operation of the audio system and climate control. Control of aircon and related functions can be done via regular climate control buttons on the dash, or via navigation from buttons near the screen, or from an optional steering wheel mounted push stick.

In full spec the Gloria/Cedric was an extremely well appointed car, standard and optional features include:

ABS brakes dual airbags
side airbags leather interior
sunroof display screen
steering wheel mounted controls dual zone climate control
power front seats power rear seats
heated seats rear audio and cliamte controls
wood grain interior trim xenon headlights
Extroid CVT transmission reversing camera
rear AV jacks traction control
sports mode adjustable suspension

Although essentially the same cars in similar spec, the naming for different models between the Gloria and Cedric was slightly different.
