After hearing a few good things from friends and being a regular visitor to the J-Spec website, I took the plunge and asked their assistance to import me a vehicle.

Toyota Corolla Fielder Hybrid (NKE165G)

The Toyota Corolla Fielder hybrid is the 2013 onwards hybrid engine wagon version of the world's best selling car. The Corolla Fielder has the 1NZ-FXE engine as found in some Prius models, this is a 1.5L Atkinson cycle engine with 54kW, and also features a 45kW electric motor which is charged by the petrol engine. Driving modes include a hybrid mode with both the petrol and electic engines providing power at appropriate times (the petrol engine will turn off when only electric power is needed), or there is a full EV Drive mode that uses the electric engine only. Power is through a continuously variable transmission (CVT) to the front wheels.

Fuel consumption natually is very good, with quote figures of 33.3km/L, or 3.0L/100km.

Standard safety features include front and side airbags, ABS brakes, traction control, stability control, brake asisst, and electronic braking distribution. 2015+ facelifted models can come with Toyota's Saftey Sense C pack, which uses a laser radar unit and camera for safety systems such as Pre Crash Avoidance (brakes are applied if the car senses it will hit something in front), Lane Departure Alert (LDA) and Automatic High Beams (AHB).

Only models built after October 2020 are currently eligible for import.
