Toyota Esquire, Noah and Voxy hybrid (80 series)
The Esquire, Noah and Voxy are a mid size people mover made by Toyota from 2014 onwards for the 80 series models. Importable versions are 1.8L petrol/electric hybrid versions (ZWR80 chassis codes), or regular petrol versions for wheelchair accessible models only. The three named models are in reality the same car with just very slight cosmetic differences at the front and rear, why exactly Toyota chooses to give the same vehicle 3 different names is beyond us, but they've been doing it for years! The Voxy is supposed to be the slightly sportier looking model than the Noah, and the Esquire is supposed to be the more upmarket version with the same appearance as a Noah, but with a larger chrome grille. See the photos below for how each model looks.
Hybrid models feature a 1.8L 2ZR-FXE Atkins cycle engine which is the same as found in the Prius and works in conjunction with and charges a battery which also drives the car (sometimes without the petrol engine running) to improve efficiency. Combined petrol and electric engine power is quoted at 100kW / 134hp, and fuel economy under Japanese testing conditions is 23.8km/L or 4.2L/100km.
Hybrid models are all 7 seater variants only with the second row of captain's seats having class leading 810mm long rails allowing them to be moved very far back and forwards. A low and flat floor increases interior space and the hybrid battery is located underneath the front seats. Front crash avoidance system and lane departure warning system are an option, as is Intelligent Parking Assist with Easy Set, which allows the car to detect the location of parking space lines and then automatically steer the car into a parking space once the Ok button is pushed.
